Artist Hillary Hany

Meet Hillary

Hillary Hany is an abstract expressionist artist, living in Mansfield, Connecticut, who conveys her emotions through vivid acrylic on canvas. Her art offers an honest, vibrant glimpse into her life experiences. From grief to empowerment, Hillary expands viewers’ perspectives to evoke emotion and invites you to pause, reflect, and connect.

Using canvas, acrylic paints, brushes, her fingers, and palette knives, she explores ways to express her individuality, drawing inspiration from Jackson Pollock, Vincent Van Gogh, and the chaotically beautiful world around her. Painting since she was young, with no formal schooling, Hillary’s work is ever-evolving and developing, giving collectors a unique opportunity to her diverse creativity.

Warm and charismatic, Hillary loves to connect over coffee, sharing book-worthy stories and listening to yours. When she is not at the easel, you can find her out in nature oohing at insects, plants, and stones, dressing up for Renaissance Faires, fabricating props and costumes for Grymm Studios, and leading creative activities for senior memory care housing.

Her work has been shown in over seven different galleries throughout Connecticut and New York. Winning a second-place best in theme for her original piece, ‘Crawling Out of Darkness: A Universal Effort’ at InterCommunity Gallery in 2025.

Empower Series | 2026

As Hillary’s life transforms, so does her artwork. She is inspired by imagery, nature, and emotional experiences to deepen her expressionism. Playing with color, texture, and natural forms, she channels her artistic talent and expands beyond the purely abstract. Never formally trained, she sees her own evolution as a drive to be in more galleries and to challenge the question: What can I create?

Transformation Series | 2025

As Hillary’s life shifted from the loss of her partner and a newly diagnosed physical disability, she was forced to retire from her career as a massage therapist. In this shift, she chose to change her life. In May 2025, she presented her artwork at The ArtSpace Gallery in Hartford, CT, for the first time as part of the TRANSFORMATION: Finding Art Through Trauma Exhibit. She painted monthly and created a whole new series of art, further exploring expressionism.

Becoming Series | 2021-2023

Hillary’s earliest works began to take form in 2021 after the end of her ten-year marriage. Later that year, she fell in love with an adventurous man named Daniel, whose presence inspired her to paint in the abstract finger-painting style. While she was exploring abstract expressionism, tragedy struck in May 2023 when Daniel died from an overdose. This series serves as a tribute to his profound impact and reflects Hillary’s journey to becoming an expressionist artist during this emotional chapter in her life.
