Want to Know A Secret?
Do you care too much about how others view you? Ruminate on past conversations, interactions, and choices you made, wondering “Could I have presented myself differently?”
Well, here is a secret that both freed and enraged me. No one. Not a single person outside your main circle truly cares. End of story.
This post may be a bit directed towards my nero-spicy colleagues, but it is true for everyone. We live in a fast-paced world where you are lucky to be a passing thought in someone else’s life. Your rumination? Self-torture. You are thinking about how you spoke, how you dressed, how you looked, and how you sounded way more than the other person. And P.S., if that other person does note any of the things I listed above, they too are either a neurodivergent or a total prick.
So breathe. No one literally cares.
Which leads me into my next half of this secret - if that upsets you, then good! It means you actually have good human qualities. Apathy is an invisible plague flooding our phones, news, politics, and you name it.
So what do you do now that you know this “secret”? You run with it!
Make whatever sparks joy in your soul, wear whatever, express however, be your true self in a world that doesn’t actually care, to the point where they do! The only way human minds can evolve is if you make them question reality, which means we have to make people care by not caring (I know it’s a mind-bender).
Basically, stop torturing yourself for caring. And just allow yourself to be a genuine person without trying to fix your uniqueness for everyone else. By being true to yourself, you will find the right people and the ones that don’t matter - won’t even care to remember!
Just a side note, that does not mean you should be careless and become a prick yourself. As the saying goes, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, make art.” *wink
